Attica Correctional Facility

Attica Correctional Facility is located in Wyoming County New York.  It is a maximum security prison that houses some of the most dangerous criminals in New York State.  Currently the population of this prison stands around 2,000 inmates.  This facility is also responsible for housing inmates who had disciplinary issues at other facilities.  Due to various riots, including a riot in 1971 where thirty three inmates and ten correctional employees died, the prison has a built in tear gas system that is able to subdue inmates within the mess hall and industry area.

While incarcerated at Attica Correctional Facility, inmates can take vocational training in building/custodial maintenance, electrical, plumbing, heating, printing, welding, small engine repair, television repair, general business, and floor coverings.  Specialized counseling for incarcerated veterans, substance abuse programs and sex offender treatment is also available at this prison.

For more information on Attica Correctional Facility you can read the forty five page report by Correctional Association of New York, which goes over the prison in great detail.
