Visiting an Inmate at Coastal State Prison

The Georgia department of correction encourages friends and family members of inmates who serve as good roles models to communicate and visit with an inmate.  This can help the inmate in the rehabilitation process, and eventually with his or her reintegration back into society.  Below are some things you should know, and important forms you will need to fill out if you are planning on visiting an inmate incarcerated in a Georgia penitentiary.

You must be on the inmate's approved visitation list prior to visiting.

For a visiting application click here.  The application starts on page 19 so you will have to scroll down to view it.

When visiting can I bring tampons in my pocket or are their a machine in the restroom?

parolled

When an inmate is parolled and they live far away, how do they get home?  Does the state provide a bus ticket or any other means of transportation to them?

re: Transportation for paroled inmates

Inmates are given any funds remaining from their commissary account, and any funds they have earned through working within the institution at the time of release.  Some facilities will pay for a bus ticket to an area within a certain radius of miles, but you said they live far away.  The best thing you could do is either be there to pick them up, or send money to their commissary before they are processed out of the facility so they can use the funds to buy a ticket for themselves.  Let us know how the situation works out and if you find any other relevant information.
