Inmates incarcerated in Washington State are allowed to receive letters and photos (no polaroids, or nude photos).  Your complete name and address must be written legibly in the return address area of the envelope.  For more information read the department of corrections mail policy here.  When sending correspondence always include the inmates name and Identification number as the mailing address above shows, if you know the housing unit please list that as well.  Do not mark the envelope or letter in any way.  No stamps, pens or pencils, small trinkets, or jewelry or other items should ever be mailed with the correspondence.  Staples, paperclips, lipstick, perfume, crayon art, stickers, drawings or markings of any kind will result in the correspondence being returned.  Inmates may also receive New paperback books, magazines, newspapers or other printed matter mailed directly from (Be sure to include the inmate name and ID number and send to the inmate mailing address above).

Sending Money to an inmate in Washington State

Family and friends of an inmate may send funds by United States Postal Money order.  Make the money order payable to the inmate and the inmates DOC number.  Mail to the inmate at the inmate mailing address exactly as above shows.  You can also send money electronically 2 ways; JPay and Western Union.  Please call or visit their websites for locations and fee information. 

Send money to an inmate online using a bank account through Western Union Quick Collect.

Required information to make a deposit through Western Union Quick Collect Online is:

  • Code City = WA DOC
  • State = WA
  • Account Number = DOC number + offender's last name (example: 234566Douglas)
    • You must know the offender's six digit DOC number and the offender's last name
    • The last name must match the DOC database exactly.
