Memphis FCI Inmate Mail

Inmates incarcerated in the Federal Bureau of Prisons are allowed to receive letters and photos (no polaroids, sexually suggestive or nude photos).  Your complete name and address must be written legibly in the return address area of the envelope.  When sending correspondence always include the inmates name and Identification number as the mailing address above shows.  Do not mark the envelope or letter in any way.  No stamps, pens or pencils, small trinkets, or jewelry or other items should ever be mailed with the correspondence.  Staples, paperclips, lipstick, perfume, crayon art, stickers, drawings or markings of any kind will result in the correspondence being returned.  Inmates may also receive New paperback books, magazines, newspapers or other printed matter mailed directly from Amazon.com (Be sure to include the inmate name and ID number and send to the inmate mailing address above).

Sending Money to a Federal Inmate

Family and friends of an inmate may send funds several ways.  Federal inmates may receive funds via a United States Postal Money Order or via the Western Union Quick Collect Program.

For Western Union:
Valid Inmate Eight-Digit Register Number, entered with no spaces or dashes followed by the Inmate's last Name (12345678SMITH).
The full committed inmate name must be entered on the Attention Line.
The Code City is always: FBOP, DC
The inmate must physically be housed at a Federal Bureau of Prisons' facility before funds can be received and posted. If the inmate is not physically in a Federal Bureau of Prisons' facility, the funds will be rejected.

To send funds through the mail complete a United States Postal Money Order and send to the centralized banking office at:

    Federal Bureau of Prisons
    Insert Valid Committed Inmate Name
    Insert Inmate Eight-Digit Register Number
    Post Office Box 474701
    Des Moines, Iowa 50947-0001

The money order must be made payable to the inmate's full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. Invalid information including missing or incorrect register number will result in the funds being rejected and returned to the address provided on the envelope.

The sender's name and return address must appear on the upper left-hand corner of the envelope to ensure that the funds can be returned to the sender in the event that they cannot be posted to the inmate's account. The deposit envelope must not contain any items intended for delivery to the inmate as the funds are processed at a centralized office.  All other items received at this address will be disposed of.

Funds may also be sent through Western Union's Quick Collect Program. All funds sent via Western Union's Quick Collect will be posted to the inmate's account within two to four hours, when funds are sent between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. EST (seven days per week, including holidays). Funds received after 9:00 pm EST will be posted by 7:00 am EST the following morning. Funds sent to an inmate through the Quick Collect Program may be sent by any of the following methods:

1) At an agent location with cash: The inmate's family or friends must complete a Quick Collect Form.

2) By phone using a credit/debit card: Call 1-800-634-3422 and press option 2.

3) ONLINE using a credit/debit card: Send money online using a bank account through Western Union Quick Collect. Select "Quick Collect."

For each Western Union Quick Collect transaction, the following information must be provided:

Valid Inmate Eight-Digit Register Number (entered with no spaces or dashes) followed immediately by Inmate's Last Name, for example '11223344SMITH'

The full committed inmate name must be entered on the Attention Line.

The Code City is always: FBOP, DC

If an incorrect register number and/or name are used and accepted and posted to that inmate, funds may not be returned so be sure you are using the correct information.  If you are unsure of an inmates ID number see below where we cover how to do a Federal inmate search.

Visiting an Inmate at Memphis FCI

The Federal Bureau of Prisons encourages friends and family members of inmates who serve as good roles models to communicate and visit with an inmate.  This can help the inmate in the rehabilitation process, and eventually with his or her reintegration back into society.  Below are some things you should know, and important forms you will need to fill out if you are planning on visiting a Federal Inmate.

You must be on the inmate's approved visitation list prior to visiting.

For a visiting application click here.  The application is available in English and Spanish.
