Visiting an Inmate at Harnett Correctional Institution

The North Carolina department of correction encourages friends and family members of inmates who demonstrate a positive influence to communicate and visit with an inmate. This can help the inmate in the rehabilitation process, and eventually with his or her reintegration back into society.

To visit an inmate you must fill out an application form.  Inmates must mail this form to you and can have a maximum of 18 applications.  An application must be completed for each adult and minor. Completed applications must be sent to the inmate at the institution they reside.  Inmates cannot just fill out an application for a person as it requires the applicants signature and sworn statements.  Incomplete applications will be REJECTED.

Applicants over the age of 16 must attach a copy of his or her drivers license to the application. Driver License ID and State
issued ID’s must be issued by any State Division of Motor Vehicles. Anyone under the age of 16 must have a copy of their birth certificate attached to the application.

It is the inmate’s responsibility to notify the visitor of their application status.

It is the visitor’s responsibility to update their application information. (i.e. address, phone numbers, etc.) Incorrect application information could lead to an approved visitor becoming disapproved.

Upon reaching the age of 16, a minor must update their visitor application  to include a copy of a photo ID.

Visiting Hours are as follows:
Sunday through Thursdays, with the exception of holidays.  There are five 1-hour visiting sessions on Sundays, with the first one beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the last one ending at 4:00 p.m.  On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays there are three visiting sessions each day, one and a half hours each with the first one starting at 9:30 a.m. and the last one ending at 5:00 p.m.  Wednesdays are reserved for legal and clergy beginning at 9:30 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m.

Visitors who live outside a 150-mile radius from this institution are eligible for special visitation if they are unable to attend regular visitation. However, no visits will be scheduled on Fridays, Saturdays, and State recognized holidays.

Appointments for all visits can be made up to two weeks in advance, but must be made at least three days prior to the visit. Visitors must schedule all visits by telephone, Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The number for the Visitation Center is (910) 893-2614.
