Visiting an Inmate at Hyde Correctional Institution

The North Carolina department of correction encourages friends and family members of inmates who demonstrate a positive influence to communicate and visit with an inmate. This can help the inmate in the rehabilitation process, and eventually with his or her reintegration back into society.

To visit an inmate you must fill out an application form.  Inmates must mail this form to you and can have a maximum of 18 applications.  An application must be completed for each adult and minor. Completed applications must be sent to the inmate at the institution they reside.  Inmates cannot just fill out an application for a person as it requires the applicants signature and sworn statements.  Incomplete applications will be REJECTED.

Applicants over the age of 16 must attach a copy of his or her drivers license to the application. Driver License ID and State
issued ID’s must be issued by any State Division of Motor Vehicles. Anyone under the age of 16 must have a copy of their birth certificate attached to the application.

It is the inmate’s responsibility to notify the visitor of their application status.

It is the visitor’s responsibility to update their application information. (i.e. address, phone numbers, etc.) Incorrect application information could lead to an approved visitor becoming disapproved.

Upon reaching the age of 16, a minor must update their visitor application  to include a copy of a photo ID.

can we purchased things for inmates through commissary?

Remember most Instution and Federal Prisons already do this to keep from causing problems between the inmates:I would appreciate this very much! Are we allowed to purchased food and hygiene products through the commissary for the inmates we know and and send money too? This is easier and already comes out of our checking accounts and we will get a claim number plus the amount we are allow to spend on the inmate. And you don't have to spend it all at once. All you do is send it to them in a package it is cheaper but it does have a tax too it as well. If not what other ways can I send my inmate money? Who has just been incaracerated at your Institution?

My Best Regards,

A friend from Virginia
