Pamlico Correctional Institution

Pamlico Correctional Institution is located in Bayboro North Carolina.  It is a medium security prison that houses up to 552 adult male inmates.  Pamlico Correctional Institution originally opened in 1998 as a privately owned prison.  In 2000 the North Carolina Department of Corrections took over operations and eventually purchased the facility.  Treatment programs offered at this facility include anger management, Alcoholics and Narcotics Anonymous, thinking for a change, and a program called "New Leash on Life".  The New Leash on Life program allows inmates to work with dogs through the Carteret County Humane Society.

Inmates at Pamlico Correctional Institution are offered vocational training in dental technology, masonry, carpentry, upholstery, electrical, horticulture, information systems, industrial cleaning, and plumbing.  Additional academic courses are offered that allow an inmate to earn a GED and get an adult basic education.

Visiting Hours at Pamlico Correctional Institution:

Visits at Pamlico Correctional Institution must be scheduled in advance by calling (252)-745-5538 Monday through Friday 9am-4pm.  General population inmates have visiting on Saturdays from 8am-10am and from 1pm-3pm, and Sundays from 8am-10am.  Processing of visitors stops 45 minutes after the start of the visiting session, if you do not arrive by this time you will not be allowed to visit.  Inmates in the restrictive housing unit have visits on Wednesdays from 8:30am-9:30am.  Protective custody inmates have visiting Thursdays from 8:30am-10:30am.
