Visiting an Inmate at Rogers State Prison

The Georgia department of correction encourages friends and family members of inmates who serve as good roles models to communicate and visit with an inmate.  This can help the inmate in the rehabilitation process, and eventually with his or her reintegration back into society.  Below are some things you should know, and important forms you will need to fill out if you are planning on visiting an inmate incarcerated in a Georgia penitentiary.

You must be on the inmate's approved visitation list prior to visiting.

For a visiting application click here.  The application starts on page 19 so you will have to scroll down to view it.

Visiting Hours are as follows:

Letters and Stamps

If I send an inmate a letter can I put a book of stamps inside instead of sending him money to purchase them?

Also what kind of reading material can we not send to the inmates?

Are we able to send pictures if so which kind are prohibited?

re: Letters and Stamps

While some institutions do allow you to send stamps, or pre stamped envelopes, this is not one of them.  You cannot send a book of stamps, they must be purchased from the commissary by the inmate.

You cannot send reading material that is violent, sexual, has maps, or jeopardizes the safety and security of the institution in any way.  Hardcover and spiral bound books are prohibited, all books must be softcover/paperback new and come directly from a reputable publisher like

Photos cannot be larger than 4x6 inches and must not contain nudity or be instant/polaroid.

Application for Visitation Privilege

Does the Application need to be notarized and should it be mailed to any specific person's attention or just to the main street address at Rogers State Prison?

One of my closest friends was sent to Rogers state prison, and he told us we needed to fill out a visitation form so me and my fiance can come visit him. And on the forms it says to check which documentation that I have verifying our relationship and/or status of our relationship. What kind of documentation verifies that we are friends? I mean it says friends are allowed. But how do you do that?

Also, what forms are needing to be sent to the warden and such? We have the 'significant relationship status' form, the right to be searched form, the consent for for visitors of gdc facilities and then there's inmates visitors register log and also another georgia department of corrections inmate visiting room log. Do I need all of these? Or no?

I've never done anything like this and I am so confused.

re: Visiting application for Georgia inmates

Just fill out the application, you don't need to fill out any of the other forms or visiting logs, that is for internal use only.

Cruel and Unusual punishment

Is locking an inmate in the shower a form of prison punishment or just at Rogers State prison in Georgia. ALso is legal for the prison to serve only sandwiches to inmates for days on into weeks?

How can I see to it that my son has stamps, paper, and envelopes?

re: Mail, Stamps, Envelopes for an inmate

While some facilties will give indigent inmates a few stamps and paper per month, not all do.  The only way to be sure your inmate has access to stamps, paper and envelopes is to deposit money into his or her commissary account.  They can use the funds to purchase a variety of items including stamps, paper and envelopes.

re:Sending mail to an inmate at Rogers

You can mail your letter in a regular envelope and send to the inmate mailing address at the top of this page.  Be sure to not mark the letter or envelope in anyway with anything else (no lipstick, glitter, glue, paperclips etc).
